Jeremy Adams continued his tirade yesterday against his former opponent, Mattie Lawson, questioning her Christian faith. In comments posted on this very site, Adams called Lawson a “Christian in Name Only”.

Truth or Dare finds these attacks on Ms. Lawson’s faith reprehensible. Who is Mr. Adams to think he knows what is in someone’s heart, God? Does Arthur Williams condone these kinds of personal attacks on his opponent’s Christian faith?

Adams went on to invoke Ronald Reagan to defend RINO Arthur Williams’ opportunistic party switch, saying,

“many people in the liberty movement are former Democrats. Jesse Helms. Ronald Reagan.”

There are no parallels between Ronald Reagan and Arthur Williams. None. Reagan came of age in a time when conservatism was on the rise. For many years, he spoke out as a leader in the budding conservative movement and his conservative values were founded on rock solid beliefs based on a thorough understanding of the history of human nature.

Arthur Williams is no Ronald Reagan. To invoke one to defend the other would probably even make Arthur Williams blush.

Today, Jeremy Adams endorsed his one-time political opponent, Arthur Williams, for NC House. Six weeks ago, Jeremy Adams shared the same low opinion that most Republicans have of Arthur Williams. Take a look:

Over the past six weeks, Arthur Williams has not changed. He’s still a serious RINO, a four-time Democratic legislator and a tax hiker. He’s still taking advantage of the Republican majority. He’ s still not well liked nor is he fiscally conservative. So one has to wonder, what’s changed?

Jeremy Adams has changed. The sting of defeat and the rejection he faced within his local party must have been too much to bear. He’s cast his lot with Woolard and Tarpenning. The once-promising up-and-coming political newcomer has sold his political soul.

When asked today about Adams’ endorsement, Mattie Lawson responded,

“I salute Jeremy’s service to the country in wartime but am concerned that he may not have lived here long enough to know how truly destructive Arthur Williams’ liberal voting record was in the NC General Assembly while he was a legislator. Your readers don’t have to take my word for it but merely check out Civitas Actions’ voting rating for Williams at www.civitasaction.org/house/Arthur+Williams/2010/. Williams held this seat as a life-long Democrat when he earned an “F” rating each year for 2008, 2009 and 2010. He consistently failed to support and vote for conservative issues. I am the true conservative in the race and voters who want less burdensome taxes, fewer excessive regulations threatening our existing jobs and the freedom to use their own private property will vote for Mattie Lawson in the July 17th runoff.”

Truth or Dare has learned that Ashley Woolard and Bill Tarpenning have signed on to manage the campaign of long-time Democrat loyalist Arthur Williams. Woolard is the former Chair of the Beaufort County Republican Party, a former Republican candidate for Congress and the newly-elected Republican Presidential Elector from North Carolina’s 3rd District. News of the announcement stunned party members and activists across eastern North Carolina, many of whom voted for Woolard to represent them at the Electoral College in the upcoming Presidential election and who now feel betrayed.

Williams, who served four terms in the General Assembly, was a lifelong Democrat who switched parties in 2011 and is now running as a Republican for the NC-6 House seat. Williams is up against GOP stalwart Mattie Lawson of Dare County in the race. Lawson is popular in Republican circles for her steadfast support of conservative values and her dedicated work on behalf of the Republican Party. Lawson bested Williams and a third challenger, Jeremy Adams, in the primary on May 8th but did not earn enough votes to avoid a runoff. Lawson and Williams are set to face each other in the July 17th runoff election.

Williams’ party-switch in 2011 angered local Republicans who quickly saw through the charade. It was clear from the outset that Williams had an agenda and that he was being encouraged by Republican Party leaders in Raleigh to make the switch and run for office, as Truth or Dare reported last fall. Local activists know Williams’ record as a Democrat party-man who was good at taking orders, who voted in lockstep with the Democrat Party and who earned a Conservative Effectiveness Rating of “F” as scored by Civitas. Williams never was, and is not now, a conservative by any definition. Activists here resent the intrusion of party leaders in Raleigh into their local affairs and have pushed back hard against Williams. They view Williams as a tool of the leadership and someone who will vote the way the leadership tells him to vote, not according to any conservative convictions of his own and not with the best interests of eastern North Carolina in mind.

Over the past two years, Eastern North Carolina Republicans have been hard at work trying to lessen the influence of RINOs in the party from Currituck County all the way down to Carteret County. Woolard and Tarpenning’s entry into the fray in the NC-6 race, against a dedicated and loyal Republican, has left many activists confused and angry. One prominent Republican called it ‘one of the worst political decisions I have ever seen anyone make.’ Some are speculating that Woolard, who supported Adams in the primary, is bitter over the loss and will do anything to see that Lawson does not win the seat. Party members are now questioning Woolard’s judgement. One wished that he could take back his recent vote for Woolard to be a Presidential Elector, asking,

“How can we trust that our Presidential Elector will vote for our Republican nominee when he has shown such a lapse in judgement? What’s to stop him from voting for Obama?”

The coastal communities have been sponging off the rest of the state, according to Republican Insurance Commissioner candidate Richard Morgan. Morgan says that the nice folks in Raleigh and Charlotte have been subsidizing our insurance premiums. According to his Facebook page, Richard Morgan believes,

If you want to know more about the man who wants your vote on July 17th for the Republican nomination for Insurance Commissioner, I suggest you read this post at the Daily Haymaker. You’ll see that Richard Morgan is not a conservative. You’ll see that Richard Morgan is a political opportunist who wants desperately to be in public office and will run for any seat that looks winnable. You’ll see that Richard Morgan is a certified RINO whose only qualification for this office is his voter registration.

If you want an Insurance Commissioner who will pit the coast against the rest of the state, vote for RINO Richard Morgan on July 17th. If you think we are not paying enough for insurance on the coast, vote for RINO Richard Morgan on July 17th. If you think we are not subsidizing the rest of the state but rather that they are subsidizing us, vote for RINO Richard Morgan on July 17th. If you want a power-hungry, unqualified, Jim Black crony as Insurance Commissioner, vote for RINO Richard Morgan on July 17th.

If you want a true conservative that understands the insurance problem in North Carolina, then vote for Republican Mike Causey on July 17th. Mike Causey started his campaign here in Dare County on the steps of the Justice Center in Manteo. Mike Causey has 30 years experience in the insurance industry and recognizes that the problem is not that the coastal communities are not paying their fair share. The problem is our monopolistic system and the corrupt bureaucrats who operate it.

In a defiant move, the Dare County Republican Executive Committee voted unanimously to endorse Mattie Lawson in the race for NC House District 6. Ms. Lawson will undoubtedly face Arthur Williams in a runoff election for the Republican nomination on July 17th.

Citing Williams’ lifetime devotion to the Democratic party up until just last year when he opportunistically switched parties and became a RINO, Chairman Pat Patterson voiced his full support for the motion. The resolution and motion were brought by Nags Head Precinct Chair George Embrey who cited Ms. Lawson’s devotion to Republican Party ideals and her loyalty to the local, district and state Republican Party.

Some party members objected to the motion, including Jeremy Adams, saying it was against party rules. Mr. Adams was a candidate for NC-6 and came in 3rd in the primary behind Ms. Lawson and Mr. Williams. After a heated discussion on the matter, the motion was carried unanimously by the Executive Committee. It remains to be seen if Mr. Adams’ supporters will throw their support behind Mr. Williams out of spite, if they will support Ms. Lawson, a candidate who is more closely aligned with their ideals or if they will simply stay home. Already, Facebook supporters of Mr. Adams show some inclination toward supporting the RINO.

Brace yourself for another round of robo-calls and political junk mail. The crowded field of Republican candidates has resulted in the need for a runoff election or what’s officially called a second primary. In North Carolina, a second primary can be requested by a second place finisher if no one person in the race received a plurality of the votes (read the statute here). With the Republicans coming out of the closet in North Carolina and running for office in unprecedented numbers, there were many races in which voters could not settle on the best candidate, resulting in the potential for a runoff.

The races which qualify for the second primary on the Dare County Republican ballot are listed below
and are posted on my Elections 2012 page. I’ll post more on each of these individual races in the coming days and weeks. OBX Tea Party may even host some of the candidates in the very near future. Pay particular attention to the race for State House District 6, our district. Mattie Lawson will be going up against RINO Art Williams in the runoff.

The second primary will be held on Tuesday, July 17th, with early voting starting on Thursday, June 28th. It is so important that you turn out for this runoff election. Turnout is typically dismal in runoff elections which means that your vote will carry even more weight; it could be the one vote that decides the election for some of these candidates.

Wayne King, Vice Chairman of the North Carolina Republican Party, drew an overflow crowd of Dare County Republican leaders at the Black Pelican Restaurant in Kitty Hawk Friday.

“It’s like this all over the state,”

King said, about Republican enthusiasm and passion in the 2012 election campaign.

King warned about what he called “the huge, huge pressure on our party” because the President Barack Obama Democrats are pouring so much extra effort into North Carolina, holding their national convention in Charlotte and spending millions of dollars in the state.

“We need to be fully focused on beating (Gov.) Beverly Perdue and Barack Obama and right on down the line”

he said.

He noted that Republicans are running for all seven state wide offices, so many that there will be GOP primary elections to pick among candidates.

“Primaries are a good thing. They allow us to vet our candidates.”

King said that the NCGOP will have 35 Victory Offices set up this year, far more than in any other year in history. He told Republicans not to get complacent and warned them not rely on polls or the news media which are predicting huge GOP wins in North Carolina and in the country.

They’re predicting winners but the race hasn’t even started yet

He told leaders that nothing can be taken for granted despite the GOP’s huge wins in 2010. The Democrats have been gearing up since November 3rd 2010 and it will take every conservative activist knocking on doors, calling on neighbors, writing letters to the editor, manning the polls and spreading the conservative message in order to secure victory in November.

Rather than run to retain the House seat in NC-6, Bill says he can be a more effective conservative voice in the Senate, being one of 50 rather than one of 120. Mr. Cook will likely face Stan White (D) of Dare County who was appointed to the seat in 2011 when Marc Basnight predictably resigned after his party lost control of the North Carolina Senate. Official filing with the BOE does not begin until February.

NC-1 Senate consists of eight counties of which Dare, Beaufort and Pasquotank are the largest counties in terms of numbers of voters. The other five counties are: Camden, Currituck, Gates, Perquimans and Hyde.

Bill ranked one of the most effective conservative members of the General Assembly in his first term in the North Carolina House. His votes earned him a score of 98 out of 100 on Civitas Action‘s Conservative Scorecard.

WRAL recently ran a story on the dire situation at Oregon Inlet. The problems at the inlet have been going on for decades and there is no real solution even on the horizon. Our leaders have failed us. Our elected representatives including current and former reps, like Congressman Walter Jones, Senator Burr, former Senator Dole, Senator Hagan, former State Senator Marc Basnight and Governor Perdue have all passed the buck, preferring only to posture and bellow and take a few minutes for a photo op. Where is the leadership on this issue while our fishermen and boaters continue to struggle to eke out a living, while communities like Wanchese are ignored and sacrificed? The environmentalists have seized power and the results are devastating: unemployment, the decline of the North Carolina fishing industry, lost tax revenue and struggling communities. We continue to look to our leaders for a solution and we continue to be disappointed.

Frank Palombo, who is challenging Walter Jones in the Republican primary, issued the following press release on the matter:

Today Frank Palombo, candidate for the Third Congressional District, demanded the federal government take immediate action to create and fully fund repairs to Oregon Inlet to ensure permanent use of the waterway by commercial and recreational fishing vessels. In 1970 Congress approved the construction of a jetty to reduce shoaling in Oregon Inlet, but that project was killed by the White House Council on Environmental Quality in 2003.

“It is unacceptable that no permanent solution to end shoaling in Oregon Inlet has been undertaken during the last 18-years that Jones has been in Congress,” said Palombo. “Oregon Inlet accessibility impacts all eastern North Carolinians, and overregulation has resulted in the fishing business being down 80 percent in our state while we are importing almost all of the fish we eat in America.”

“Jones’ failure to secure permanent access to the Atlantic Ocean, and to our many fisheries, for the watermen in the northern Outer Banks is another example of his ineffective representation of eastern North Carolinians in Congress,” Palombo continued. “I will fight the overregulation of our waterways, and I’m certain voters will recognize that my experience building public coalitions will produce a real solution for Oregon Inlet.”
