An Open Letter to all Members of the NC General Assembly

I strongly oppose the Gamefish Bill.  The North Carolina fisherman is nearly an extinct species anymore and this bill will drive another nail in his coffin.  You have no right to tell the citizens of North Carolina that the resources in the water belong only to the tiny percentage of people who fish.  The commercial fishermen provide a healthy, delicious product that people want and if they don’t provide it, the only place we’ll be able to get it is from overseas, from places like China and Thailand, whose fish is not inspected and is often raised in crowded, dirty farms and doused with chemicals, antibiotics and pesticides.  It is shameful that 86% of our fish is already imported and the NC General Assembly has some members who want that percentage to be higher.

Not only are some members bent on depriving the citizens of this state, and the country for that matter, of a healthy, delicious product, they are destroying a way of life for many coastal North Carolina communities. And for what, (more…)

FairTax Seminar to Reform US Tax Code & Lower Taxes

presented by Dare County FairTax

February 3rd, 2012, marks the 99th anniversary of the Sixteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution which imposed the federal income tax system on its law-abiding US citizens.

The public is welcome to attend an educational seminar for all liberty loving Americans who realize that the current Federal Income Tax Code is a failed system on Wednesday Jan 18th at 6:30 pm at the Kill Devil Hills Library located on Mustian Street behind the KDH Post Office .

NC State Director for the FairTax Plan, John Pierce, will explain how the FairTax Plan works; why many US Congressmen and Congresswomen, public officials and tax accountants support it; and why it makes sense. There are many ways Congress uses the tax code to achieve political goals that have nothing to do with raising revenue. We need tax reform now.

For more information, go to NCFairTax.org.  To calculate what your family could save if the FairTax were implemented, go to the FairTax calculator.

Mike Causey, Republican candidate for North Carolina Insurance Commissioner, took the first step in his campaign today on the steps of the Dare County Courthouse.  Causey chose Dare County to launch his campaign today, he said,

“…to bring focus on the problem of insurance in the coastal counties”

Premiums for household insurance, especially windstorm insurance, have skyrocketed in recent years in eastern North Carolina, worse yet in the coastal counties.  Causey, who ran for the office previously, said he was urged by North Carolina Republican leaders to seek the office this year because of widespread and bipartisan criticism of how the State Office of Insurance has been administered.  Causey intends to visit all of North Carolina’s 100 counties with a particular emphasis on eastern North Carolina.

Top Dem Op at Causey PresserLocal business and party leaders attended Causey’s kickoff news conference.  Dare GOP Chairman Pat Patterson and several party members welcomed Mr. Causey to Dare County.   Tommy Fulcher, a top Democratic Party operative, attended but (more…)

Wayne King, Vice Chairman of the North Carolina Republican Party, drew an overflow crowd of Dare County Republican leaders at the Black Pelican Restaurant in Kitty Hawk Friday.

“It’s like this all over the state,”

King said, about Republican enthusiasm and passion in the 2012 election campaign.

King warned about what he called “the huge, huge pressure on our party” because the President Barack Obama Democrats are pouring so much extra effort into North Carolina, holding their national convention in Charlotte and spending millions of dollars in the state.

“We need to be fully focused on beating (Gov.) Beverly Perdue and Barack Obama and right on down the line”

he said.  He noted that Republicans are running for (more…)

It’s expected that State Representative Bill Cook (R) of Beaufort County will announce a run for the vacant NC-1 Senate seat next week at a press conference scheduled for Wednesday at 2pm in Washington, NC. Rather than run to retain the House seat in NC-6, Bill says he can be a more effective conservative voice in the Senate, being one of 50 rather than one of 120.  Mr. Cook will likely (more…)

WRAL recently ran a story on the dire situation at Oregon Inlet.  The problems at the inlet have been going on for decades and there is no real solution even on the horizon.  Our leaders have failed us.  Our elected representatives including current and former reps, like Congressman Walter Jones, Senator Burr, former Senator Dole, Senator Hagan, former State Senator Marc Basnight and Governor Perdue have all passed the buck, preferring only to posture and bellow and take a few minutes for a photo op.  Where is the leadership on this issue while our fishermen and boaters continue to struggle to eke out a living, while communities like Wanchese are ignored and sacrificed?  The environmentalists have seized power and the results are devastating:  unemployment, the decline of the North Carolina fishing industry, lost tax revenue and struggling communities.   We continue to look to our leaders for a solution and we continue to be disappointed.

Frank Palombo, who is challenging Walter Jones in the Republican primary, issued the following press release on the matter: (more…)

Mike Causey (R) has announced as a candidate for the NC Insurance Commissioner’s position. He will be here for a press conference and photo op at 10:30 AM on Monday, January 9th, at either the Dare County Courthouse steps or the Dare Center.

If you’re fed up with Dare County being the insurance scapegoat for the rest of the state, please come out and meet Mike and be present for the press conference. It will be a brief visit.

If elected, this would be the first time in history there has ever been a Republican in NC in that position.

The new year has dawned and with the new year comes new infringements on our liberties and more of our money being flushed away, courtesy of our Democrat Republican Congressman Walter B. Jones.  Effective January 1st, light bulb makers can no longer sell 100 watt bulbs that do not meet the government’s arbitrary and capricious standards.  This ban is the result of a bill passed in 2007 called the Energy Security and Independence Act, a big-government bill supported by Walter Jones.  In addition to banning light bulbs, Walter voted to give away millions of taxpayer dollars for green-job training and solar energy research.

Oh, but wait, didn’t Walter vote to repeal the light bulb ban?  He tweeted that (more…)

Walter Jones’ campaign is having to dig deep to try and showcase their candidate’s former conservative credentials.  Recent Facebook posts labeled ‘From the Archives‘ show two photos of a young Walter Jones with conservative stalwart Senator Jesse Helms nearly 20 years ago.   That was then.  This is now.  Let’s get a little more current, shall we?

Cut and Run

“Cut and Run” Jones with progressive left-winger Dennis Kucinich. Jones voted for Kucinich’s articles of impeachment against Bush in 2008. Jones also voted numerous times with Kucinich and Pelosi to pull out of Iraq long before the job was done.

Support for Dodd-Frank

Jones voted for the the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform Bill

Support for Obama Proposal

Jones supports Obama’s plan to spend even more money on infrastructure projects

Censure of Joe Wilson

Jones voted to censure Joe Wilson for shouting ‘You lie!’ during Obama’s State of the Union speech

Against Drilling

Sarah Palin was known during the 2008 Presidential campaign for her strong support for drilling, often telling the crowds to “Drill, Baby, Drill!”  Jones voted against drilling off the Atlantic coast and voted NO on a bill to lift Obama’ moratorium on offshore drilling in the Gulf.

No to Economic Prosperity

Jones voted against Paul Ryan’s budget, “The Path to Prosperity”

Let’s retire Walter Jones and elect someone who will be a real conservative leader, Frank Palombo

Under heavy fire for orchestrating a so-called ‘hunting program’ for selected youths on county property using appropriated county equipment, Commissioner Mike Johnson has now been found to have been using the power of his office to solicit donations for a religious organization.  Johnson used his county email account to promote and solicit donations for Cross Trail Outfitters (CTO), a Christian based hunting and fishing club, with which he is affiliated.  This is in clear violation of county policy, state ethical standards and plain old common sense.

Johnson’s public promotion of  CTO, began as early as Feb 2010.  County records indicate there are at least 2,000 emails between 2010 and 2011 that were either to or from Commissioner Mike Johnson’s county e-mail account that either related to his work with CTO or contained the following signature block: (more…)

The Washington Daily News is reporting that Beaufort County Republican Wayne Langston will run for the Senate District 1 seat.  The 42 year old Washington resident made the announcement yesterday.

The seat is currently occupied by Democrat and Basnight-crony Stan White of Dare County.  White was appointed to the seat after Basnight retired not unexpectedly in January.  The battle over who would succeed Basnight was contentious but ultimately White prevailed.  His chief opponent was party-lackey Arthur Williams of Beaufort County who was so angered by his loss that he switched parties and now calls himself a Republican.  This blogger has reason to believe that Williams will soon announce (more…)
